Looking for an expert opinion? You’re in the right place!
We recently sat down with Garner Leidy, Ironmark’s VP of Pre-Press, to get his thoughts on pre-press and print production…in just 90 seconds! Watch the video below:
WHAT IS PRE-PRESS?
Pre-press is where client files are reviewed and set up for production. This includes pre-flighting, scanning, color correction, and positioning for press. It’s also where we’ll be setting up guidelines for embossing, foil stamping and die cutting. In addition to that, we will do data merging, using client excel files, for variable printing and proofing.
WHAT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES ARE MOST USEFUL IN PRE-PRESS?
The tools we use in pre-press are dozens of applications, plugins, utilities, and workflows that allow us to push work through efficiently and meet the demands of not only the press room, but also the expectations and timelines of our clients.
HOW SHOULD CUSTOMERS SET UP FILES FOR PRE-PRESS?
When supplying files to pre-press, a good PDF is going to have a 1/8” bleed, crop marks, the colors are going to be correct, according to what your specifications are, as well as the size being correct. When submitting a job for variable printing, clearly defined data fields and a clean excel document is always preferred.
WHAT DO YOU SEE FOR THE FUTURE OF PRE-PRESS AND PRINT IN BUSINESS?
The future of this industry, and pre-press, is the continued evolution of the processes that can generate personalization efficiently.
